REFLECTION 5: HCD EXERCISE

Human Centered Design is a practical approach to innovative solutions that puts the users needs before anything else. By doing this exercise I was able to understand the person for whom I was designing a solution. The topic of this HCD exercise was to come up with a solution for my partner’s Final project on the basis of their interests, views on the class and subjects they find challenging.

The exercise was divided into two parts- The first one was “Empathize” where I had to interview my partner and he had to interview me. The second one was “define” where each of us had to organize the data we had gather for an optimal solution. The third one was “Ideate”, in which we had to tell each other the appropriate solutions. This helped me gain a lot of insight on my partner’s likes and dislikes(particularly his dislike of cursive writing). He also loves visual representation and believes there should be more of that in the labs. I formed my solution broadly around these points.
